What is the Style Creator?

The Style Creator lets you shape the aesthetic style of your images by creating custom Style Reference Codes (--sref). This tool is exclusive to midjourney.com.

Create your style by choosing from the grid of images presented to you, and the Style Creator uses the styles you pick (and the ones you don't!) to create a new and unique style code you can use over and over again in your prompts.

There are two ways to use the Style Creator:

  1. Head to the style-creator-icon.svg Style Creator Page from the main website navigation menu and enter a prompt to get started.
  2. Use a prompt you already have from your Create Page by hovering your mouse over the prompt area and clicking the style-creator-icon.svg Style Creator button.

Important: Preview images generated in the Style Creator use your GPU time.

Prompt Importance

The prompt you enter in the Style Creator is used to generate the preview images for your new style after each round. It doesn’t guide the Style Creator itself, and it won’t always match the content of the sample style images you pick from.

  • Use a simple prompt to get the clearest view of what your style does.
  • Use a complex prompt with extra parameters if you want to experiment. Keep in mind that complex prompts blend their own details with your new style code in the preview images. When you use that same style code with a different prompt later, the results may look different.

Images generated in the Style Creator use Midjourney version 7. If you start with a prompt from an older version and it includes parameters that are not compatible with V7, it may error unless you remove the parameters. View a compatibility list in our Version article.

Style Creator Walkthrough

Combining Style Codes

If you enter the Style Creator with a prompt that already contains a style reference code, the Style Creator will add your newly generated style code in addition to the existing one. These codes don’t merge—they both stay active. That means the preview images you see are created using two separate style reference codes at the same time.

If you close a session and later reopen the Style Creator from one of the images you created, that image’s prompt will already include a style reference code. Any new refinements will stack an additional style code on top of it.

To match the look you see inside the Style Creator, make sure to use both style codes together in your future prompts.
