Keep your creativity organized with folders!
What are folders?
Folders work just like the folders on your computer, helping you organize and manage your Midjourney creations. You can set up individual folders and even group them to keep things organized. Here's how you can make the most of folders:
- Organize Your Images: After creating images, you can sort them into different folders—imagine a filing system for your various projects or styles. Feel free to name folders any way you like, as long as each has a unique name.
- Generate Images Inside Folders: You can also generate images directly within a specific folder. This ensures any new creations are automatically saved where you want them, keeping related images together in an easy-to-find place.
You can access folders from both the Create page and the Organize page. Just click the folder button next to the search bar to open the folder menu, and click it again to close it.
To create a new folder, open the folder menu and click the "New Folder" button. Type in a unique name for your folder and press enter on your keyboard. Your new folder will appear in the menu, with a number showing how many images it contains.
Adding & Removing Images
Head to the Organize page to easily add images to your folders.
-
Adding Multiple Images at Once:
- To select multiple images, hold the Shift key on your keyboard and click the images one by one. Or, click and drag your mouse over the images you want.
- With your selection ready, make sure the folder menu is open, and drag the selected images onto a folder.
Alternatively, with your images selected, use the bulk actions menu at the bottom of the screen. Click "More," then "Add to Folder," and choose your desired folder.
-
Adding an Individual Image:
Click and drag the image to your folder in the folder menu or right-click the image, select "Add to…" and pick your folder.
Removing Images:
Open the folder by clicking on it. To remove multiple images, select them and use the bulk actions menu: click "More," then "Remove from Folder." To remove a single image, right-click it and choose "Remove from…"
We used to have a feature called Smart Folders that automatically organized images based on search terms. These have now become Saved Searches, which you can learn more about in our Organizing Your Creations article.
Generating in Folders
Creating images directly inside a folder is easy and helps keep your work organized in dedicated creative spaces.
- Enter the Folder: First, click the folder from the folder menu to open it and go inside. When you are inside a folder the folder button next to the search bar will display the name of your current folder, so you always know where your work is being stored.
-
Start Generating: Use the Imagine bar at the top of the screen to start generating your images. While you're inside a folder, the Imagine bar will have an indicator below it that says "Generating in..." to show where your images are going.
- Stop Generating in the Folder: To stop generating images in a folder, you need to leave the folder. Do this by looking for the folder button next to the search bar and clicking the "X" next to the folder name. Even if you navigate to another page on the website, your prompts in the Imagine bar will continue to save in the folder until you leave it.
Managing Folders & Groups
Rename
To change a folder's name, hover over the folder to reveal the three dots icon. Click on it to open a small menu where you can select "Rename." Once you've entered the new name, press enter on your keyboard to save it.
Delete
To delete a folder, hover over the folder to reveal the three dots icon. Clicking it will open a small menu where you can select "Delete." Deleting a folder won’t delete the images inside. They will remain safe in your gallery.
Download
Need to download all the images in a folder? Simply hover over the folder to reveal the three dots icon, click it, and select "Download" from the small menu.
Folder Groups
If you want to create a folder group, open the folders menu and click the "New Folder Group" button. Type the desired name for your group and press enter to save it.
Organizing your folders is as easy as dragging and dropping them into or out of groups. You can also use the three dots icon menu on a folder and select "Move to" and pick the group.
Remember, folders that aren't in any group will always appear at the top of the folder menu. Additionally, if you remove all folders from a group, that group will automatically be deleted.
