What is the Full Editor?
The Full Editor on midjourney.com gives you access to the tools and features found in our Editor, but it lets you edit any image you want—not just the ones created in Midjourney!
The Full Editor is only available to subscribers who meet at least one of the following requirements:
• have a yearly subscription
• have been subscribed for at least 12 consecutive months with no interruptions
• have generated more than 10,000 Midjourney jobs
If you'd like to upgrade your subscription, visit your Manage Subscription page.

The Full Editor is a powerful new tool for unleashing your imagination. To maintain the same moderation standards we've set across Midjourney, we're introducing a few additional, necessary precautions.
By using the Full Editor, you agree to the following rules in addition to our Terms of Service.
Full Editor Access & Guidelines
- The Full Editor is only available to subscribers who meet at least one of the following requirements: have a yearly subscription, have been subscribed for at least 12 consecutive months with no interruptions, or have generated more than 10,000 Midjourney jobs.
- You must meet the age requirement in our Terms of Service.
- You must follow all applicable laws, our Community Guidelines, and other policies.
- We may remove content or restrict access at our discretion.
Your Responsibilities
- You are responsible for all content you input, create, and share.
- You must have the necessary rights to use and edit the images you upload.
If you disagree with these rules, do not use the Full Editor.
You will likely encounter friction with our moderation — seemingly innocent prompts may be blocked by our filters. Blocked jobs don't cost you any credits. GPU time will only be deducted when you see your results.
We encourage you to use this tool and your imagination with joy, wonder, responsibility, and respect.
For additional information on policies, including privacy, payments, and disputes, refer to our Terms of Service.

Full Editor Walkthrough

Select Your Image
To get started with the Full Editor, first navigate to the
Edit page.
Here, you have two options to begin: you can either upload an image directly from your device, or paste an image URL.
-
Erase Tool & Change Aspect Ratio
For this example we'll use a photo of this cute cat.
To add a crown to the top of the cat's head, we first need to add enough space for the crown by adjusting the aspect ratio. You can do this using the Aspect Ratio presets, or by clicking and dragging the short gray bar at the top of the image.
Next, use the Erase tool to remove the area where the crown will sit, and add your text prompt to the Imagine bar describing what you want to see.
-
Edit Results
When you're ready, press the "Submit Edit" button. Midjourney will generate four images in the panel on the right. Each time you make an edit to this image, the results will get added to this panel.
From here you can keep editing, or use the Export options to upscale or download your image.
-
Select Tool
If you wanted to change the background behind the cat you can use the Select tool to create a selection mask over areas of your image. Once highlighted, erase the area within your mask using the "Remove" button. The "Isolate" button erases everything outside your mask.
-
Retexture
If you wanted to turn this image into a watercolor painting, click over to the Retexture tab and enter your new text prompt into the Imagine bar. When you're ready, hit "Submit Retexture."
-
Retexture Results
From here you can keep editing, or use the Export options to upscale or download your image.
Keep in mind that images created in the Full Editor won’t appear on your Create or Organize pages unless you've chosen to Upscale them.
These images are saved within the Full Editor, so you can revisit them anytime on the Edit page to keep working or to Upscale and Download.
Using the Select Tool
The Select tool works by creating a selection mask over parts of your image. Here's how to use it:
- Start by pressing the "Select" button to activate the tool.
- Click on an area of your image to set your first positive point. This tells Midjourney where to focus.
- To refine the mask, add more positive points or adjust by left-clicking or Shift + clicking to set negative points. Negative points highlight areas you want Midjourney to avoid.
- Keep adding points until your mask perfectly covers the areas you want.
When your mask is ready, choose between two options:
- Hit the "Remove" button to erase what's inside the mask.
- Or use the "Isolate" button to erase everything outside your mask.
Make sure to use either "Remove" or "Isolate" to apply your mask before submitting your image edits. If you need to clear the mask, use the "Cancel" button.
Retexture
The Retexture tool is exclusive to the Full Editor, and it allows you to overlay new styles and details onto your image, while keeping the structure of the original image, like a template.
To use Retexture, simply click on the Retexture tab at the top of the Full Editor page, add a new prompt, and Submit.
Image History
Images generated in the Full Editor will not show up on your Create or Organize pages unless you Upscale them, but they are saved within the Full Editor. You can continue working on them or Upscale and Download them at any time by going back to the Edit page.
The show command in Discord will not work on images generated with the Full Editor.
