Transform your images with simple tweaks or creative overhauls using Variations!
What are Variations?
Imagine you take a photo and make several copies of it. Now, you want to change each copy a bit to see different looks. Variations in Midjourney do just that for your generated images. They allow you to create different versions of the same image by changing little details or the overall arrangement.
Think of variations as a creative tool. They help you explore how several versions of your image might look, either by making major changes or just little tweaks, all without starting over from scratch.
Subtle Variations
Subtle variations make small, detailed changes to your image. This is perfect when you like the overall image but want to tweak small areas without a full redesign.
Strong Variations
Strong variations more significantly change your image while keeping the main theme intact. The core idea stays, but the visuals change in new ways. This is ideal for exploring bold, creative possibilities while sticking to the original concept.
Using Variations
-
Start by clicking on any image you've made on your Create or Organize page. This will open the image, revealing more options.
Next, look for the "Creation Actions" section where you'll find the Vary options. Choose Subtle or Strong and your variations will immediately start generating.
If you can't find the Vary options right away, just click "More options" and add a checkmark next to Vary to make them visible.
If you'd like to change your prompt while making variations, check out our article on Remixing.
