Want to explore beyond your image's borders? Use Pan to grow the canvas with new detail!
What is Pan?
Imagine you have a framed photo and you want to make the frame bigger without changing the picture itself. Panning expands the "canvas" of your image in a direction you choose. The extra space is then filled with new details that match the original image, using guidance from your prompt. It's a cool way to explore and add context to your picture while keeping the core parts untouched.
Pan is compatible with Midjourney versions 5 and later.
Using Pan
-
Start by clicking on any image you've made on your Create or Organize page. This will open the image, revealing more options.
Next, look for the "Creation Actions" section where you'll find the Pan options. Choose any of the arrow buttons to quickly expand your image in the direction you want.
If you can't find the Pan options right away, just click "More options" and add a checkmark next to Pan to make them visible.
If you'd like to change your prompt while panning to add new elements, click the "Editor" button. This loads your image into Midjourney's editor, where you can make multiple changes at once (pan, zoom, remix, and vary region). You can click and drag the canvas edges or select a different aspect ratio to pan.
